Family Home Remodel – A Legacy Reimagined

A project completed by Builder Bees

This whole-home remodel was especially meaningful, as it centered on transforming a cherished family home into a forever home for the next generation. My client had grown up in this lakeside house, rich with memories of holiday gatherings, 4th of July parades, and summers at the lake. With his parents now gone, he and his wife were ready to make it their own—honoring the past while updating it for their lifestyle. Thoughtful space planning was key: she needed a well-equipped kitchen and sewing space, he needed a home office and boat storage, and together they needed extra bedrooms and bathrooms for visiting kids and grandkids. On the main floor, we opened up the kitchen to the living area to create a spacious, lake-facing island and breakfast nook, repurposed the old breakfast room into a powder bath and drop zone, and converted former bedrooms and baths into a generous new primary suite—complete with a walk-in shower, double vanities, and a custom closet and laundry. In the basement, we reimagined underused spaces—turning a dark hallway and workshop into functional, inviting rooms for guests. And most importantly, we preserved the heart of the home: the dining room, with its original wallpaper, chandelier, and treasured memories. The result is a home ready to welcome the next chapter of life, laughter, and legacy.
